Central City’s Dark Island Trail from Highway 66 to Marquette is completed for bikers, walkers and runners to enjoy.

The eight-mile trail runs from Mile Marker 17.5 in Central City to one mile south of Marquette. The last six miles of the trail have been resurfaced for comfortable hiking and biking.

Funding for the trail project has been in the works for at least a year, said Pat Carlson, director of the Platte PEER Group. Grants and donations totaled more than $83,000 and came from private donors and organizations. The PEER Group previously estimated the project would cost around $10,000.
